The renowned Holy Archangels Monastery in Vatos (Agios Taxiarches), a domed single-aisled basilica, was founded and established by the scholar Caesarius Daponte in 1761. Elaborately crafted icons are kept in the church’schancel, including an icon of the Archangel.
Typically, the monastery’s feast day is celebrated on the 8th of November. However, the Divine Liturgy and celebration are carried out a few days later as other churches also operate on that same day. During the celebration, local dishes such as goat with pasta, are offered to the visitors and worshipers while wine is served in abundance.
