The Skopelos International Film Festival for Youth, or SIFFY as we call it, started with the assistance of the Municipality of Skopelos in 2009 and has been organized and funded yearly by the Skopelos Foundation for the Arts (SkopArt). The concept of the festival is to invite a talented group of foreign filmmakers to work with the local children aged 8 to 18 to create short films based on a theme connected to Greece in eight short days. The kids write the scenario, shoot the film and then the filmmakers assist the kids with the process of editing. The films are then shown to about 1000 people at the Skopelos Amphitheater.The short films are then submitted to numerous festivals around the world. 65 volunteers from Skopelos work with SIFFY each year to create this wonderful experience.
