Sailing and Anchorage
The entire island is a giant “canvas” overflowing with the blue sky, the dark blue of the sea, the vivid green of the forest, and the turquoise of its seraphic beaches. This canvas is waiting for your “splashes”, so together you can create a unique piece of art.
Sail on the waters and explore the island’s hidden treasures or make your own “picture-postcard” on Instagram with a sunset in the background. Thanks to its geographic location, the gentle winds, the three harbors (Skopelos Chora, Agnontas, Loutraki), and the three organized marinas (Skopelos Chora, Elios, Loutraki), Skopelos is a must destination for any sailing enthusiast. On the island, you can rent a motorized or sailing boat with or without a skipper.
The sea area of Northern Sporades
A lush green paradise with exotic coasts and popular or secluded beaches unfolds before your eyes. The broader area includes the Magnesia Prefecture on the mainland; the magnificent Northern Sporades complex i.e., Skiathos, Skopelos, Alonissos, Skyros, and the National Marine Park of Alonissos; Northern Euboea; and Chalkidiki. These are the “jewels” of Greece, and you are sure to fall in love with them on your sailing expeditions.
The favorable winds will be your faithful companions in your sailing expeditions around the Northern Sporades, as even the etesian winds (“meltemia”) are milder and more manageable in the area compared to other islands of the Aegean Sea. As such, you can steer your helm towards gorgeous, sheltered coves and shores in the western, southern, and eastern parts of the islands.
Skopelos sailing regattas
Skopelos is the island, par excellence, with a long tradition of organizing national and international sailing regattas.
Nautical Club of Skopelos
The interest and love of Skopelitians for sailing is also evident through the activity of the Nautical, Sailing, and Rowing Club of Skopelos (NIKOS). NIKOS members are always happy and eager to share the sea’s secrets with you!
Sailing and maritime tourism in Skopelos
Skopelos is adequately equipped to support your sea expeditions:
There are four (4) anchoring spots and harbors on the island: in Skopelos Chora, Loutraki, Neo Klima and Agnontas. Skopelos Chora is equipped with organized marinas with berths for vessels of different sizes, from sailing boats to big yachts. Organized marinas can also be found in Neo Klima, Loutraki (Port of Glossa), and the beautiful bay of Agnontas. Various boat ramps are at the disposal of visitors with inflatable boats: two (2) boat ramps at Skopelos port, one (1) at Agnontas, one (1) at Neo Klima, one (1) Loutraki, and one (1) underneath Panayitsa of Pyrgos where there is also an electric winch.
This infrastructure allows yacht and boat owners to cover their needs in fuel, ice, and food, and access repair and maintenance services. Blo (in Panormos), Staphylos, and other natural bays on the island are safe for anchoring.
