Saint John on Kotronaki

You will find the St. John Monastery in the south-eastern part of Skopelos town. The name of Saint John on Kotronaki (meaning “boulder”) has prevailed due to the rocky relief of the hill on which the monastery is situated. The single-aisled basilica of the monastery was founded in the 18thcentury and was under the administration of the Holy Monastery of Great Lavra on Mount Athos. Inside, there is an old iconostasis and many icons, the most important one being the 18th-century icon of the Ascension.
